Yogis- challenges have become all the rage recently. They’re an awesome way to push yourself, discover new things, learn and grow…in the studio. Now I do not have a problem with going to the studio. I am after all a yoga instructor. I firmly believe that practicing with trained professionals is important for alignment and posture. I also firmly believe in the power and peace of practicing in your own home. Through Black Dog Speaks and my book review website Black Dog Asana, I have had the amazing opportunity to connect with the very talented and wonderful teacher Jay Fields. She sent me her life and yoga changing book Homebody Yoga: A 28 Day Course to Bring You Home to Your Body and to a Life Led with Purpose. I keep it where I practice now and often revisit when my practice grows stale or my energy drops. She has such an inspiring way of working with you and makes it feel as if you are chatting with your teacher rather than reading a book. When you read Homebody Yoga you feel like you are gradually walking through a process rather than implementing a drastic or challenging change in your life.
Whether you have already established a home practice, or you have been thinking about trying it, this is a great resource and tool – a way to practice alone without being alone. Jay Fields is an experienced teacher who has been working with and training others. I got my hands on her first book Teaching People Not Poses and loved it as well. In fact, I think its so impactful that it should be made a part of teacher training curriculums. Homebody Yoga is a great tool for anyone, whether you are a teacher or starting a practice. Its a simple but impactful 28 day transformation that you will be able carry through your life.
