The Midnight Queen
By: Sylvia Izzo Hunter
The first novel from Sylvia Izzo Hunter, The Midnight Queen, we anxiously hope will be one of many. An imagination so inventive as to come up with with an enchanting and riveting a novel as The Midnight Queen will be sure to produce untold wonders. Hunter has gifted readers an adventurous and colorful tale in her debut novel, which is so deliciously complex that it is hard to believe this book to be her first. An absolute page turner, Hunter drops the reader into an alternate version of old England where magic plays a central role, if only practiced by men. Gray is a young and promising student at the College of Merlin when he is tossed into an unfortunate set of circumstances and finds himself fighting to restore his honor and place at this prestigious institution. Love complicates and propels the young gentleman on his quest and soon a motley group of weary travelers embark on a mission to save a monarch and restore order to the kingdom.
Secrets abound in this magical world in which our brave, yet slightly awkward hero finds himself. Figures who hold positions of authority are not who they appear to be, spells cloak and confine while two young lovers struggle to illuminate the truth foiling an assassination attempt, Hunter is blessed with a gift for storytelling. The tempo throughout the work is upheld and exciting events unfold one after another until the very completion of the story. The Midnight Queen is a fresh new story unlike anything else in its genre. Reading this book was pure and simple fun. You just did not want to put it down. From the sound of it we readers can hope for and await a second novel about these two unlikely lovers. Sylvia Izzo Hunter is an author to watch for. We will be waiting and watching for her sophomore work and looking forward to watching what will is destined to be a successful career.
