By Nick Lipscombe
Wellington’s Guns is immensely detailed and a perfect read for anyone who is a history or war buff. This work details the birth and refinement of the British artillery and its impact under the command of Wellington and his defining battles. It is my belief that this is an expertly written history and would make a fine gift. Full of facts, figures and details there is something to learn on every page. Indeed, my entire family had never known the derivation of the term shrapnel – but know we do! I don’t believe it can be said enough that this book is a must for the shelves of any den belonging to a lover of history or battles and international conflicts. For those related to these educated individuals Nick Lipscombe’s Wellington’s Guns makes a wonderful gift.
Personally this book was a bit too detailed for me, but I selected it to review based on the history and war aficionados in my life. My level of familiarity for the size and structure of military commands or lack there of I believe hindered me as did my want for a better understanding of world geography and topography. For those that are enraptured by this genre of book, it is a highly recommended read. Nick Lipscombe is a very talented author and has both structured and written this book impeccably well.
