Not all the books we review are fun and fiction – there are those that are fun and fact too. Take Dr. Claudia Welch, MSOM has written an amazingly detailed work on the female human body and all that pertains to it. Balance Your Hormones, Balance Your Life was a pleasure to read and a pleasure to learn. Literally with every page I learned more and more and more. I got to a point where I was enthralled and could not put it down. The body is such a complex, crazy wonderful thing and I know next to nothing about it. Most of us know nothing about it. The beauty of it all is that we are learning on some level about the body, the female body every day.
When you listen to someone explains different concepts and facts about the human body you expect your eyes to glaze over and the information to fly miles over your head. However when Dr. Claudia Welch describes it to you it hits you on your level and you are able to suddenly understand these more complex issues and she makes you think about how all of this affects not only you but all of the women in your life. I am not saying that you will agree with little thing or suggestion in this book – you may not be convinced to try acupuncture, or you may go out and try it tomorrow. What is important about this book is that you walk away much more educated than you were when you first thought about picking it up off the shelf.
Wonderfully detailed and backed up better than the Hoover damn, Dr. Claudia Welch has numerous studies to back up her work in this book. I had no idea that so many different studies even existed let alone could decipher them on my own. I learned so much about the different types of hormones, their roles within their bodies, and what can happen when we loose and or replace them. I can also tell you that I no longer fear menopause. Which is a big thing as I am witnessing many women around me either fretting about it or going through it currently and not exactly enjoying it. I can now start to go about my life in a healthier and more balanced way – which is ultimately the goal when you life a yoga lifestyle. Dr. Claudia Welch, MSOM and her book Balance Your Hormones, Balance Your Life is a great read for any woman of any age.
