By Lauren Owen
Dark and mysterious as the old parts of London itself, The Quick was wonderfully enigmatic and transports one away through time and space to the dark world of shadowy figures and the brave souls who choose to stand in their path. Love, friendship, daring, cunning, mystery, this work has it all. The Quick by Lauren Owen was expertly crafted and lures the reader on sneaking through crowded streets of London, tiptoeing through the sleepy countryside and combing through Europe. Beautifully complex characters play out the dramatic story which constantly evolves and unfolds right up until the very end. Just like the exotic books that line the old library and travel around the world in the exotic roaming library of its pages, The Quick is a fine work.
I very much enjoyed reading Owen’s new work. It was a new take on a popularly macabre genre and she owned it. Her creativity was refreshing and inspiring. If you like secretive clubs or societies, vampires and/or quests, then you should pick up The Quick and check it out for yourself. This is a book that I could read again and again – which I am not normally one to do. Right up until the very end of the book the story was still building and adding new twists and turns. It was very enjoyable. I would purchase this as a gift as well as recommend it. Go pick it up!
