By: Clyde Phillips
There is no title more apropos than this for Clyde Phillips’ Unthinkable. Philips dumps you right into the violence and carnage when he introduces the cast of characters, or should I say victims at the outset of this novel. A crime drama, mystery and thriller all rolled into one this is a “can’t put down” book from cover to cover. Phillips delivers a mass murder with a twist that plays out across these pages in magnificent imagery. Unthinkable is not just a murder mystery. Unthinkable is fast paced, thriller with a story that continuously unfolds throughout the entire book.
This book was an exciting and fast paced read that I wished would not end. Lieutenant Jane Candiotti will enamour you and draw you in. A tough and fair cop that has worked her way up to a position of leadership, has to make some tough decisions and risks crossing the line when one of her own family members becomes the victim. Together with her detective husband this duo has to cope with loss, prep for a new baby, and solve a frustrating murder that has them flirting with dangerous decisions. Character development is strong. The plot is complex and full of false starts, jumps and at times a grinding, steady progression. The action is palpable and believable.
I found myself reading late into the night once I picked up Unthinkable by Clyde Phillips. It should have come as no surprise though, as he is a seasoned TV writer and producer on shows like Dexter and Nurse Jackie. When you pick up this crazy novel, you will not be disappointed. Grab one for yourself, grab one for your friends, this book has earned a special spot on my shelf.
